CPOs’ charging infrastructure in Europe - August overview

CPOs’ charging infrastructure in Europe - August overview

August is one of the busiest months for driving, and although CPOs continue to expand their high-power charging infrastructure on major motorways across Europe, many new hubs have been opened in cities or shopping areas to make fast charging a reality for EV drivers every day.

Load management solutions help CPOs optimize charging and energy management, something especially interesting when so many EV road trips are happening in the holiday exodus. A win-win situation for CPOs and EV drivers

Also, EV charging apps are taking into consideration new holiday trends and including new features for those EV drivers. This is the case of the new “caravan” filter in Fastned app, with information about the dimensions of the canopies.

As mentioned, technology is one of the keys in the EV sector. In this regard, Allego has been recognized with several industry awards, including a 2024 MarTech Bearkthrough Award for the best overall sales enablement software solution. The company was also included on the Best Workplaces list for the forth time.

Powerdot was another big player last month, securing €165 million in green funding to further expand its ultra-fast charging network in Europe. This CPO is on fire, as Q2 results showed, with 185 new ultra-fast chargers, 818 new charging points and 194 new sites opened.

The first half of the year was impressive as well for Fastned, who was celebrating their record-high 79 new locations.

In fact, regarding charging infrastructure, nearly 150,000 DC charging points were in operation in Europe in July, out of more than 900,000 public charging points, according to data from The Charge Point Monitor mentioned by EV Markets Reports. Netherlands, Germany and France account for almost half of the public charging points. Let's take a look at the latest news.

CPOs latest news in Northern Europe

  • Eleport: Lowered prices in Estonia at night time and weekends and in Latvia where they are now unified, as in all locations in Lithuania.
  • PowerGo: Celebrated its first anniversary in Denmark, with over 800 charging points installed across the country and a target to install 1,600 more within the next two years.
  • TotalEnergies: In partnership with SEE and under the new Source brand, EV charging infrastructure in the UK and Ireland will be expanded with up to 3,000 high-power charging points across 300 hubs in both countries over the next 5 years.
  • Uno X: New ultra fast chargers in Norway, at REMA 1000 in Leira and Nyrud, Mosjøen; and at the 7-Eleven Røde Kro, in Denmark.

  • Atlante: As a part of VINCI’s Electric Mobility Operation programme, Atlante had mobility experts during 5 strategic days in August at its Marguerittes-Sud station, in France, to provide on-the-spot charging assistance.
  • Bump: It continuous its expansion in France. The company celebrated the launch of the first ulta fast charging station in a supermarket in Lyon - Super U- with 4 150 kW chargers. New charging stations at car dealers were opened as well in August: Le Garage Moritz in Val de Moder and Groupe Parot Ford station in Angoulême
  • DRIVECO: It announced the forthcoming deployment of a new 6-point charging station at the next Grand Mess in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Furthermore, 8 Carrefour Market have inaugurated in August their Driveco stations: Annoeuillin, Saint-Rémy-Les-Chevreuse, Offranville, Gonneville la Mallet, Pinon, Morevil, Decize and Aussonne. Driveco’s strategy to promote its app and encourage charging at   Carrefour Market stations goes further with price promotions for Sixt customers until the end of the year.
  • Electra: It celebrated the milestone of 300 charging stations, 50 of which were opened in Belgium in just one year.
  • Eleport: Following its pricing strategy set for Northen countries, Polish EV drivers can benefit now of lower prices in general and no longer idle fees on AC chargers.
  • EnBW: It continuous expanding its fast-charging network across Germany, with a new hub with 14 charging points on the A1 highway in Lower Saxony. This CPO operates the largest fast-charging network in the country, with more than 5,000 charging points.
  • ENGIE Vianeo: The company opened the first ever worldwide ultra fast charging station for electric trucks. The French corridor Paris-Lyon was the chosen location for this 2x up to 400-480 kW chargers that allow eTrucks charge in 45 minutes. ENGIE Vianeo was also delighted to share the new records on charges on their motorway stations during the major holidays weekends this summer: more than the double than last year.
  • Fastned: It is enhancing its ultra fast network in the Netherlands, with 2x A400 All-in-One chargers at Den Ruygen Hoek-West, the biggest Fastned station in the country. Furthermore, a new ultra fast EV charging station was launched in Puiseux-Pontoise, in France, a few weeks ago. This is the 40th station in the country.
  • Powerdot: Last month alone, this CPO added 65 operational charging points in Poland, over 70% of which offer fast charging.

CPOs latest news in Southern Europe

  • Atlante: It keeps enhancing its Spanish network with partnership with Nieves Energía.
  • Be Charge: This CPO has opened more than 120 new charging points across Italy during this summer. Some of the cities are Grosseto, Ravenna, Vercelli and Padova.

  • PowerGo: A few days ago, a new office was inaugurated in the centre of Barcelona, just a few weeks after the first year of operations in Spain. A new strategic location to support the company's objectives in the Iberia region over the next few years.

Next week -on the 2nd and 3rd of Septemberr- Berlin will host the ICNC24, the Intercharge Network Conference 2024. An exciting event to discover the latest eMobility innovations and rollouts, including FLEXeCHARGE solutions
