In the bustling streets of Hamburg in 2012, three former college friends, Per Pöhl, Bernhard Rönsberg, and Nico Rogge, crossed paths. Their chance reunion at the iconic Hamburger Fischmarkt wasn't just a nostalgic catch-up; it was the birth of a groundbreaking idea. Combining their expertise in real estate, renewable energy, and corporate restructuring, they envisioned a future where energy efficiency and real estate converged to create unparalleled value for customers. This vision led to the establishment of NWG Group, a company dedicated to accelerating the energy transformation in the real estate sector.

Fast forward to today, NWG Group has expanded its horizons. While they continue to champion tenant electricity, they've identified e-mobility as a core competency. With the founding of NWG Charging they aim to support the rapid transition from combustion engines to electric vehicles by installing PV on their multi tenant buildings and complementing it with EV chargers - with the goal of using as much renewable energy as possible.

Integrating tenant charging with electricity and rooftop photovoltaic (PV) installations is a complex undertaking. While it might seem straightforward on the surface, the intricacies involved in merging these systems can be daunting. For companies like NWG Group, which are deeply involved in this sector, the challenge is not just about technology but also about ensuring system stability and efficiency.

A common engineering principle is to "never touch a running system." This is because making changes to a system that's already functioning can introduce complications. Enter FLEXeCHARGE's proxy based system. While capable of interfacing directly with customer systems, offers the flexibility to operate independently and thus not disturbing any dataflow. It can aggregate data from chargers and power meters and relay this to third-party software without disrupting existing systems. This approach allowed NWG Group to integrate the Gateway Connect and FLEXeCHARGE platform without overhauling their current setup.

The partnership between NWG Group and FLEXeCHARGE has led to the development of several charging infrastructures across Germany. One of which in Hamburg is "Germany's largest private charging infrastructure." Here 35 charging stations are connected with more capacity for 173 spaces for the tenants. FLEXeCHARGE's dynamic load management ensures that the energy distribution is balanced, allowing NWG to use locally produced electricity more effectively. This not only reduces reliance on the grid but also optimizes the use of sustainable energy sources.

Since we not only operate charging stations, but also generate PV power and are responsible for supplying energy to the tenants, it is very important for us that we can easily integrate the FLEXeCHARGE’s open system into our existing setup.”
