August 2025: Billion-euro funding, rural rollouts, and cross-border growth fuel Europe’s charging push

August 2025 saw another leap forward in Europe’s EV charging transition. From billion-euro financing in France to rural expansion in Scotland and Slovakia, charging operators and policymakers are scaling infrastructure to meet surging demand. Partnerships across regions are strengthening networks, while new hubs and fleet-focused solutions continue to accelerate EV adoption.

Here’s a look at the month’s key developments.

Northern Europe

United Kingdom

ubitricity Installs 10,000th UK Charge Point

ubitricity, a Shell subsidiary, has deployed its 10,000th EV charger, now covering 12% of the UK’s public network. Recent rollouts include 2,000 units in Tower Hamlets and 560 in Birmingham, backed by the £381m LEVI Fund.

Hubber Secures £60m to Build 30 Urban Charging Hubs

Founded by ex-Tesla staff, Hubber will deploy 30 high-powered hubs across UK cities, starting with Lewisham this August. The £60m funding aims to tackle urban charging shortfalls, with a target of 100 MW grid capacity.

Connekt Wins Multi-Million Investment for 1,000 UK Hubs

Connekt has secured Growth Fund 1 backing to roll out 1,000 charging hubs over four years, focusing on underserved UK regions.

EEAST Secures £219k for EV Ambulance Charging

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust will install 44 dual charge points across its stations by November, funded under the NHS Chargepoint Accelerator scheme.

InstaVolt Launches Summer Special in Bristol

InstaVolt is offering ultra-rapid charging at £0.50/kWh until September 30 at Bristol Golf Centre. The site hosts six renewable-powered chargers in a prime M32 location.

Scotland Invests £3m in Rural & Island Charging

Scotland’s EV Infrastructure Fund will expand charging infrastructure across Argyll, Orkney, Shetland, and the Western Isles, aiming to install 24,000 additional chargers by 2030.

Denmark & Nordics

Virta Acquires Northe to Lead Fleet & Energy Solutions

Virta has acquired Northe, the Nordic leader in fleet management software, creating Europe’s most comprehensive EV fleet and charging platform, which now serves 100,000 drivers.

Germany

E.ON Grows Investments to €3.2bn in H1 2025

E.ON reported €5.5bn adjusted EBITDA (+13%) and €1.9bn net income (+10%) in H1 2025. Investments focused on digitalising energy networks and expanding EV charging, while urging regulators to adopt investment-friendly frameworks.

Munich Airport Opens Zero-Emission Bus Depot

Munich Airport has launched a €23.8 million electric bus depot with 37 chargers, expanding to 72 by 2026 with solar integration, in support of its Net Zero 2035 target.

France

Electra Raises €433m, Exceeds €1bn in Funding

Electra has secured a €433m green loan, bringing total funding above €1bn. With 500 stations live across nine countries, Electra aims for 2,200 stations and 15,000 ultra-fast chargers by 2030.

Belgium

Belgium Surpasses 100,000 Public EV Chargers

Belgium now hosts over 100,000 public charging points, with 90% of these being regular chargers. Flanders leads deployment, positioning Belgium among Europe’s top five for chargers per EV.

Netherlands

Fastned Grows Revenue 44% to €54.3m in H1 2025

Fastned delivered 81 GWh across 3 million sessions, expanding to 363 stations (including its first in Italy). Backed by €71 million in bond funding, it secured 37 new prime sites despite posting a net loss of €18.3 million.

Netherlands Leads Europe in Public Charging

The Netherlands has over 200,000 public EV points and 500,000 total chargers, making EV travel easy and widely accessible across urban and rural areas.

Austria

MOON Expands Charge\@Public Card Access

MOON’s Charge@Public card now provides access to 230,000 chargers across Austria, Germany, and the wider European region. Covering 95% of Austria’s network, it ensures surcharge-free, reliable charging.

Southern Europe

Italy

Milence Opens Piacenza Hub on TEN-T Corridor

Milence launched a new charging hub in Piacenza with four CCS chargers and driver amenities. It sits on the key Mediterranean freight corridor, with expansion planned as part of Milence’s 1,700-point target by 2027.

Latitude & AMPECO Plan 10,000 Chargers in Italy

Italian energy firm Latitude and AMPECO will launch 10,000 EV chargepoints under the ELEVEN brand within five years, supported by €2m and AMPECO’s roaming-enabled software.

Spain

Iberdrola Adds 18 New Chargers in Seville

Iberdrola España installed 18 charge points at Viapol Center car park, adding 100 kW of capacity to Seville’s growing network.

Southern Europe Multi-Country

Atlante Reaches 1,000 Charging Stations

Atlante has surpassed 1,000 stations across Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal, with 3,500 charge points. Its 100% renewable-powered network often integrates solar and storage.

Eastern Europe & Baltic

Slovakia & Poland

GreenWay Adds 368 Charging Points Across Region

GreenWay completed 368 charging points at 68 sites in Slovakia and Poland, with chargers up to 400 kW. The rollout doubles its capacity to 75 MW and expands hubs for both cars and heavy-duty EVs.

Multi-Regional

UTA Expands eCharge Access to 925,000 Points

UTA eCharge now covers 925,000 chargers in 28 European countries, including 300 truck-ready sites such as Milence hubs. Available in 15 countries, the service supports fleets with depot and home charging.

VinFast Partners with Plugsurfing for 1m+ Points

VinFast customers can now access 1 million public chargers across 24 countries through the VinFast app and charging card, streamlining cross-border EV travel.
