The FLEXBOX at E-World 2026: Plug-and-Play Grid Compliance Control

Presenting the FLEXBOX at E-World 2026: A Standardised DSO Interface
At E-World 2026 in Essen, grid compliance took centre stage.
As high-power EV charging expands across Germany and Austria, Charge Point Operators face increasing complexity. More than 800 Distribution System Operators (DSOs) in Germany alone apply different grid codes, technical interfaces, and approval processes. What used to be a power availability question has become a grid compliance challenge.
At the event, Jan Köster, CCO and co-founder, presented the FLEXBOX: FLEXECHARGE’s plug-and-play hardware designed to standardise DSO integration and eliminate site-specific engineering.
Standardising DSO interfaces for Germany and Austria
Rolling out charging hubs in DACH is no longer just about installing chargers. It requires compliance with fragmented DSO requirements, including Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101/104, digital and analogue interfaces, and remote control specifications.
During the presentation, Jan explained how the FLEXBOX provides a standardised DSO interface by design. Instead of adapting each site to local grid rules, CPOs deploy one consistent hardware and technical model, regardless of regional DSO requirements.
This approach enables:
- Faster grid approval cycles
- Reduced engineering effort
- Lower CapEx and OpEx
- Predictable, scalable rollouts
For operators expanding into Germany or Austria, this standardisation removes one of the biggest bottlenecks in infrastructure deployment.
Turning DSO complexity into standardised grid compliance
Beyond compliance, the FLEXBOX acts as a local energy intelligence layer. It connects EV chargers, battery storage systems, power meters, and PV assets into one coordinated network, ensuring deterministic operation even during DSO activations or grid events.
Load management and grid compliance control run locally on the FLEXBOX server. Cloud connectivity enhances visibility, but the site remains operational and compliant even if connectivity is interrupted.
At E-World 2026, the message was clear: scalable EV infrastructure in DACH requires local, standardised, and cloud-resilient grid integration.
