Q8 Electric's high-power charging stations are equipped with batteries from Intercel and steered by HARMON-E, FLEXECHARGE's energy management system. Yuso now plugs directly into that setup as the certified balancing service provider, trading the flexibility of those batteries on the wholesale and balancing markets. It is, in short, three specialists doing what they each do best, together.
What does a balancing service provider actually do?
For readers less familiar with the term, a balancing service provider, or BSP, is the commercial link between a flexible asset, in this case a battery on a charging site, and the electricity markets. It forecasts the volume of flexibility available in real time, trades it on markets such as day ahead, imbalance, and frequency response, and ensures that whatever is delivered matches what the grid operator requires. Without a BSP, a battery's flexibility simply has nowhere to go. With one, it becomes a source of income. Across Belgium and the Netherlands, charge point operators are hitting the same wall.
