The Challenge
When Powered by E.ON Drive & Clever set out in 2019 to build Northern Europe’s premier ultra-fast charging corridor, they ran into a costly snag—especially at their Swedish stations during the long winter months. A single brief power spike could trigger the “maximum-effect” grid penalty, saddling them with hefty monthly fees and threatening their promise of refuel-fast charging.
The Solution
HARMON-E's real-time peak-shaving smooths out those spikes—without ever slowing a driver’s charge. Our platform continuously monitors site load and dynamically trims power at individual chargers to stay below penalty thresholds. In the next phase of our partnership, dedicated on-site batteries (BESS) will discharge to cover any remaining shortfall and be leveraged for energy-market arbitrage—storing cheap off-peak power and selling flexibility back to the grid—unlocking new revenue while guaranteeing uninterrupted ultra-fast charging.
